Digital Camera Upgrade!

The IIC has just upgraded the digital cameras available for checkout. There are now three new cameras which can be checked out to any PAC faculty or staff member for short periods of time.

Old Sony Mavica
2 Mega Pixel
1.4 MB Disk

New Canon G7
10 Mega Pixel
2 GB Card

Previously the digital cameras available were Sony Mavica, 2 Mega Pixel, floppy drive units. Utilizing the floppy drive disk, these cameras proved to be very convenient but only provided a few snapshots per disk (as each disk only held 1.4 megabytes of data). This meant that one would have to carry around multiple floppy disks and the final photographs could only be utilized for web related projects because of their low Mega Pixel rating.

Technology has improved dramatically and the new digital cameras can be utilized for any type of project (including those for large scale print!). The new models are Canon G7’s and are 10 Mega Pixel units. This translates into a 5X quality improvement over the previous units! These new digital cameras also save to SD memory cards and each card now holds an incredible 2GB of data. That’s a very impressive 1428X improvement and allows you to take almost endless images!

The IIC is glad to inform you that these new digital cameras are available for immediate checkout! Please fill out our equipment request form to make your request now!

Overhead Projector Update

The IIC is glad to report that all projectors on campus have been relocated and labeled to a designated room. It is now very obvious which room a projector belongs to because the labels are room specific and on all four sides of the actual projector itself (see photograph below).

Additionally, all projectors were plugged into the wall socket and checked to verify that bulb is in fact working. This means that every projector on campus is functioning.

Also, to address the issue of reporting an equipment problem to the IIC, we have created a new form on the web site (faculty can call in as well and we will fill out the form for them and send someone out to fix it as soon as possible, depending on availability). This new “Equipment Service Request Form” is live now on the site and can be found on the same page as all other request forms.

Lastly, the IIC will need everyone’s help as well to ensure this effort is a success. Specifically, projectors are labeled according to room and that they should not be moved to other rooms. If anyone notices a projector in the wrong room, please put it in the correct one or call the IIC to report it and our staff will return it to the proper location. If any problem is encountered with projectors, or TV carts for that matter, then please ask that they address the issue immediately, by calling 921-5307 and identifying the cart label (now according to room number) or by filling out the new online form. The IIC will attempt to respond to any calls or forms submitted as soon as possible and correct any problems identified.
